AS Monaco midfielder Youri Tielemans has revealed he snubbed a move to Arsenal during the last summer window in a bid to get more playing time with the Ligue 1 champions.
The 20-year-old was a subject of transfer interest from a couple of clubs in Europe with the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool all linked with moves for the midfielder who ended up joining Monaco in a £22million move.
Tielemans believes he will do well playing at the Stade Louis II rather than Arsenal due to the number of quality players in the current midfield set-up at the Emirates.
Speaking about his decision to join Monaco, the Belgian said he knew joining Arsenal will not bring about much change due to the club’s decision to keep a bunch of the first team star in order to contend with their League rivals.
The midfielder who was also a target for Jose Mourinho also revealed that he ‘never said no to any club’ but chose his current side in order to have more first-team opportunities.
Despite speculation over Arsenal’s transfer activity during the last summer, Arsene Wenger was unable to bring in a new face to his midfield with the future of the likes of Jack Wilshere, Mohammed Elneny and Mesut Ozil in the balance.
