Brazil international defender David Luiz was dropped for Chelsea’s victory over Manchester United on Sunday after confronting manager Antonio Conte in training.
The Chelsea defender did not even make the substitute bench for the return of Jose Mourinho, Nemanja Matic, Romelu Lukaku and Juan Mata to Stamford Bridge.
The Premier League Champions didn’t miss the former Paris Saint Germain defender, with Conte’s men keeping a clean sheet in a 1-0 win over the Red Devils at Stamford Bridge.
Their display was a massive improvement on the abject performance against Italian Serie A side AS Roma in the UEFA Champions League last week Tuesday, where they were humiliated 3-0.
And former Juventus head coach Antonio Conte’s fiery post-match reaction to the bad result led to a training ground bust-up with David Luiz.
Antonio Conte reportedly called a team meeting where he spelt out what he was not delighted with.
The Times reported that the Brazilian confronted his boss on Thursday and questioned his tactical decision.
Antonio Conte was said to be furious at having his person and technical ability called into doubt and replied by publicly addressing down the Brazilian and dropping him from the Matchday squad.
David Luiz was reportedly told not to train with the team on Friday and had a brief fitness training session on Saturday.
The defender then worked with the team’s youngsters on Sunday before heading to Stamford Bridge to see the victory over Manchester United from the stands.
