Ligue 1 runaway leaders Paris St-Germain are set to compete with Manchester United for Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld as they have reportedly begun an unofficial contract discussion with his agent so as to beat the Red Devils and Chelsea to his signature when the summer transfer window.
According to Kristof Terreur, a Belgian football journalist known for his reliable transfer news, Paris St-German are monitoring the player’s condition at the Wembley since last winter but didn’t make any official approach towards acquiring his service. Kristof further reveals that the Unai Emery’s side are set to launch an eye-catching offer for the Belgian international.
The 29-year-old has been José Mourinho’s longtime target but the Portuguese manager has failed in all his moves to lure him to Old Trafford. Despite all his failed attempts, the Red Devils boss hasn’t given up on the player’s signature and he is ready to reignite his interest in the Belgian when the summer transfer window begins.
Alderweireld is currently having a season to forget as he is recently being left out of matchday squad by the Lilywhites’ boss Mauricio Pochetino despite returning from the hamstring injury he picked up last November.
Thomas Tuchel who is expected to take over from Unai Emery as PSG manager next season is tipped to make some additions to the side and he believes Alderweireld would bring more stability to his defense.
