Finally, the Blues have officially confirmed that their first-choice goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has moved to Real Madrid for £35m.
The Belgian star has been a subject of transfer rumours since last season as the report claimed that the Los Blancos are hoping to lure him to Santiago Bernabeu after they failed in their bid to sign David De Gea.
After a long discussion between Madrid and Chelsea’s representatives, the European Champions finally seal a deal for the goaltender on Tuesday and he is due for unveiling this afternoon.
While confirming the player’s departure via the official site, the Blues revealed that they have reached an agreement with Real Madrid for Courtois’ signature, who is set for his medical at Santiago Bernabeu.
The Stamford Bridge outfits further include that Real Madrid striker Mateo Kovacic would join them on loan which was part of the agreement they had with the Los Blancos.
With Courtois successful switch to Santiago Bernabeu, it is now left for Julien Lopetegui to decide who will be his first-choice goalkeeper between Kaylor Navas and the Belgian goalkeeper in the coming season.
As for Chelsea, Maurizio Sarri has completed a £72m move for 23-year-old goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga from Athletic Bilbao to become the most expensive goalie in the history of the game.
He is set to become the club’s first-choice netminder in the coming season ahead of Green and Caballero.
