Manchester United team news: Injuries, suspensions and line-up vs Leicester City

All you need to know ahead of the Premier League clash at Old Trafford today.

Manchester United and Leicester City open the curtain on the Premier League season on Friday night at Old Trafford, and for the home team, the new campaign will be a blessed relief after a turbulent summer.

Man Utd Injuries

United will not have six players injured for their first game of the season, and will even overlook those who may not be in shape after returning to camp.

Nemanja Matic has undergone surgery on an abdominal problem picked up in the World Cup, while Dalot has also been under the knife due to a knee problem.

Sergio Romero and Marcos Rojo also underwent surgeries after being injured in an international service, and as a result, Romero missed Argentina’s entire career in Russia.

Antonio Valencia left the preseason draw with San Jose Earthquakes for a calf injury, while Ander Herrera is out after developing a problem during the loss to Bayern Munich last Sunday.

Possible Man Utd Starting Line-Up

Mourinho could well name a lineup very similar to the one he took on the field against Bayern Munich last week, although he has the option of calling more than one of his late returners.
Players like Paul Pogba, Romelu Lukaku and Ashley Young have had less than a week of training after their progress until the last weekend of the World Cup and all three could be considered.
With injured Herrera, Mourinho will be forced to make at least one change, which will probably cause him to ask Pogba to step forward and start, while Lukaku and Young can start if the coach decides to bypass Marcus Rashford and Luke Shaw.
Although the club was unable to add a center back during the transfer window, Mourinho still has many options in that department, and Chris Smalling and Phil Jones are among the alternatives to Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof.
Meanwhile, Matteo Darmian remains a substitute for Valencia even though he is likely to leave before the end of the month, and Andreas Pereira must make his first league start for the club after loan periods in Granada and Valencia.

Serge Gnabry left the Gunners some seasons ago after failing to convince Arsene Wenger to give him much game-time on the pitch.

The German youngster showed great promises during his time at the Emirates Stadium but he wasn’t rated by the former manager Arsene Wenger, who only used him in 18 matches before selling him out to Weder Bremen.

Gnabry has since returned to form and he’s being one of the best performers for Bayern Munich so far this season.

The 23-year-old was seen hanging out with Arsenal left-back Hector Bellerin on social media and Arsenal fans can’t wait to see the player re-joined the Gunners in January.

Having seen the picture of both players via Bellerin’s verified Instagram account, the Gunners faithful are calling on their Spanish defender to talk to the German young striker to sign with the Gunners once more.

Here is the summary of their posts on Instagram.

One fan advised Bellerin to ensure the impressive player return back to the Emirates stadium as he posted ‘Bring him back.’

Another fan couldn’t hide his sadness the player’s transfer as he posted “gutted for seeing him (Gnabry) leave the Emirates Stadium’

Finally, another supporter believes Arsenal is the player’s home, therefore, it is time to ‘bring him back home’.

Ronaldo’s acquisition pushed him down the pecking order at Juventus, how will Mourinho help Douglas Costa return to prominence

Douglas Costa

Since Cristiano Ronaldo made his sensational switch to the Turin outfits last month, some players have been feeling the heat and one of them is Brazilian star, Douglas Costa.

The winger was permanently bought by Juventus after his impressive showing for the club during the previous season, however, his days under Massimiliano Allegri is numbered as he’s not getting quality time on the field of play.

To make matters worse for the former Bayern Munich, Juventus hierarchy have decided to part way with him following his spitting incident in their clash with Sassuolo last week.

Reports are linking him with a move to Manchester United in the next transfer market.

Should Mourinho capture the player’s signature, how will the Portuguese manager get the best out him remains unseen.

Anthony Martial might be the sacrificial lamb for the player as Mourinho won’t love to have too many wingers on his team.

Costa has pace and his drilling skills make him the best player to occupy Mourinho’s either wings.

He could operate as a left winger or right-winger, depending on Mourinho’s preference.

Lukaku will benefit more from the Brazilian’s creativity at the wings because Costa would make many crosses into the 18-yard box for the Belgian to latch into opposition’s goal.

Arsenal fans are upbeat about the future, having recorded three wins from five games.

The off-field events happening at the Emirates Stadium is another reason for the club’s faithful joyous mood.

During the week, the Gunners finally confirmed that their long-term CEO Ivan Gazidis would be leaving the club for AC Milan next month and that was a great news for the Gunners fans, who believes the club will now spend big during transfer markets under Stan Kroenke.

Though things are going smoothly for the North London club at the moment, Unai Emery needs to get this player as soon as the January transfer market reopens.

Croatian winger Ante Rebic is the player that’s desperately needed at the Emirates Stadium, should Emery desire to make perfect use of his right wing in the second half of the season.

The 24-year-old is a quality crosser of the ball and that would benefit Lacazette and Aubameyang.

The player’s ability to run at defender and make them commit fouls is another character needed by Emery in his team to succeed.

Henrikh Mktaryan, Danny Welbeck and Alex Iwobi are all great wingers but none of them possesses the ability to bully defenders like Rebic.

The Frankfurt star scored nine goals throughout last season despite playing from the flanks. Though that wasn’t a great stats but none of the Gunners wingers was able to achieve such feat throughout last season.

It remains unknown if the Bundesliga side are ready to release the player in the coming transaction period.

The Polish international Piotr Sebastian Zieliński who was nicknamed “Pablo Nedved” by Naples fans, spearheaded his team to victory against AC Milan and as well played a pivot role in Carlo Ancelotti’s style.

Chelsea’s new boss, Maurizio Sarri showed interest in the Polish international after his impressive performance in the Seria A. Although, Napoli’s chairman already cut-off the relationship with Sarri after joining Chelsea and taking Jorginho alongside.

Sebastian Zieliński has appeared as the potential replacement for Slovakian and Naple’s captain Marek Hamsik.

The French top elite, Paris Saint-Germain have shown interest in him after losing Thiago Motta and Giovani Lo Celso last summer. Thomas Tuchel is combing for Blaise Matuidi’s replacement who left two seasons ago under then manager, Unai Emery.

Many wonders why Chelsea’s manager is after the midfield maestro because he was always on the reserved role last season.

It was also reported that Zielinski has been linked with rivals Liverpool making the market competitive for the Blues.

With information already looming around that Zielinski could sign a new deal that will see his buyout clause range from €100-€120 million which is worth a deal for someone who just started playing with the first XI.
Abramovich will need to battle with PSG’s billionaires to bring the indefatigable player to London.
