This season’s UEFA Europa League commenced last night with some eye high-profile fixtures.

Arsenal win with huge goal-margin

Arsenal were at home to their Ukrainian opponents Vorskla Poltava and Unai Emery’s men began their Europa League campaign on winning note.

The Gunners were in possession of the ball for a larger portion of the first period but they were unable to convert their chances.

However, the home side eventually break the deadlock via Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s goal after a great square-pass from Alex Iwobi, who had an electrifying performance throughout the encounter.

Aubameyang doubled the Gunners lead in the second half of the game before substitutes Danny Welbeck and Mesut Ozil scored each to bring the game behind Vorskla’s reach.

The Ukrainian side scored two quick goals but it was too late to get a miraculous comeback as the game ended 4-2 in favour of the home side.

Elsewhere, Arsenal target Ever Banega scored twice to help his side Sevilla to a comfortable 5-1 win over Belgian side Standard Liege.

Sevilla, who won the competition for three consecutive seasons in 2014, 2015 and 2016, were impressive from the start of the encounter through to the end.

Wissam Ben Yedder also scored a brace to ensure that the Sevilla side recorded a winning start to their Europa League campaign.
